Taking the Guesswork Out of Network Marketing
"Taking the Guesswork Out of Network Marketing"
Do you know how many people you have to contact to get someone to join
your NWM business? No...I mean do you know exactly how many?
Do you know how many enrollment presentations you gave last year?
Do you know which of your prospecting and marketing efforts produced the
greatest results with the least amount of time and expense to you?
Do you know how much money you earned last year for each hour you
prospected?
If you don't know the answers to these questions, you don't really know
your business. (Don't feel bad, you're in a very large club.)
Network marketing is a numbers business. The more people you see and
talk to, the more money you make. And the quality of the people you see
and the quality of what you say to them will make you even more money.
If you're not happy with the money you're making in your network
marketing business, you need to make some changes. But, before you can
make changes, you need to know what to change. You need to know what
works for you and what doesn't. In other words, you need to know the
numbers of your business.
I'm amazed when people tell me that their goal in network marketing is
to make $25,000 a month even though they've only been making $200 a
month for the past two years. Do they think that by just saying "$25,000
a month" it will happen? Do they think positive thinking alone will do
it for them?
When I ask people in NWM to tell me the numbers of what they've been
doing to generate business, they usually look at me the way a dog looks
at a ceiling fan. Do you know the look I'm talking about?
At MLM University, we have coaches who are trained to help network
marketers create business plans. The foundation of the business plan is
collecting, analyzing and reacting to the numbers of a person's
business. (If they don't have any numbers, we begin to collect them
immediately for analysis later.)
Why is tracking numbers so important? Because numbers don't lie. They
reveal the truth about what a person is doing with his/her days, what's
working and what's not working. As NWM coaches, we also know
historically what does work and we help people create specific business
plans around what has been proven to work. And, we prove it with
numbers...theirs and ours.
Okay, so what numbers are we talking about?
Here's a partial list of the numbers you'll need to have in order to run
your business like any other well run corporation:
Number of hours spent prospecting daily, weekly and monthly
Number of prospecting and follow-up calls made
Number of contacts (actually speaking with the person you called)
Number of leads generated
To whom are your calls made? Warm market? Cold market? Leads? Etc.
Specifically what are the scripts and dialogues being used when talking
with a prospect?
What are the ratios of retail-to-enrollment versus direct enrollment?
What percentage of presentations result in an enrollment? A retail sale?
What are the ratios of success versus time and expense of sending
material out to a prospect?
What is the monetary value of a single prospecting call whether that
person does business with you or not?
What are your ratios between making cold calls to get enrollments versus
expanding your warm market to get enrollments?
The numbers go on and on, but I think you get the idea.
Once you understand your numbers, you can then begin to make intelligent
decisions regarding what you need to adjust, add or eliminate
altogether.
By the way, a clearly defined business plan that includes all of the
important numbers is the ultimate time management system.
