Are You A Superhero?

One of the most often recurring themes in literature, on stage and even more on screen is the reluctant hero. Or even the unknowing & unwilling hero. This is the stuff of great comic books too!

I was watching TV the other night and it surfaced again. Here is a young woman who, through a series of unusual circumstances, discovers that she exists with the ability and responsibility to quell evil. Her reason for existence is to change the world.

How many of us have thought that, somehow, we are just a bit different from everyone else? I think most people have had the feeling at least once... that there MUST be more to life then THIS (whatever it is that you have now). That thought is what is behind what has been called 'male menopause' and a bunch of less civilized terms.

Not that it's, of itself, a bad thing to do - but we often look in the mirror and sing "Is that all there is?" That feeling of 'Hey I'm 30 or 40 or 50 or 60 and what have I really accomplished with my life? There must be more to my existence than to just being a Postal Clerk or a Nurse or a wife or a technician.

We all have a desire to be or at least feel like we are something more than just average. In my opinion this is not only what causes stories with that as a backdrop to be so is part of why so very many of them are conceived.

What is it that causes every Clark Kent to want to be a Superman? Why brings many a 'Girl Next Door' to dream about being a beauty queen or Princess? Why do many walk like, wear their hair like, talk like or dress like the famous? It appears that even some of the worst criminals do what they do for their minute of fame.

I believe the reason lies in a simple truth... one which we hide from our conscious mind... a fact that we do not wish to accept because of it's ramifications. Here it is, baldfaced.

Ultimately, aren't we all put here to change the world? We are supposed to count for something. To amount to something, to BE Somebody.

Part of my personal feeling about what causes us to feel this way is that God given spark of life that we carry in us. We were put on this Earth for a reason. Only those who are strongly anti-faith could believe anything else.

So if we are here for a reason, as I firmly believe, what is it? Is that reason the same for you or me? Why do we exist? Well, I am not prepared to answer that for anyone but myself. But this much is obvious: it is NOT to watch TV or sports, it is not to have a job or drive the biggest SUV, and it is not to trample over others feelings or lives to prove ourselves to ourselves.

Do you have to have a cape and a cave to be a Superhero? I think not. You can achieve that status SO many ways. Just in case you've been looking for meaning in your life, allow me to list a few.

Give, expecting nothing in return,
Choose your values well, and stick to them - no matter what,
Honor you commitments to others, and those to yourself,
Love deeply, and often,
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you,
Be there for your family and friends,
Judge not - period,
Don't take life so seriously,
When you are wronged, forgive AND forget,
Say Thank You, I'm Sorry, & I Love You often - and mean it.

Are there more? Thousands. Will any of us do them all - or do them perfectly? I doubt it. Can we change the world by trying? Oh Yes! Will you have holidays or toys or streets named after you? Why not? The people they name them after will be just as human and imperfect as you are.

Remember this. Great people are simply people who are made great by their choices. Choose well, for the future of us all depends on it.

Another Partner With Something To Say

Besides Chris, another one of our avid readers it seems is quite a prolific writer herself.

Stephanie Allen's article, "What You Think Upon Grows," can be read directly online at this URL:

I've found Stephanie to be quite an amazing person. Besides being an active Choose To Prosper course member, she is also the owner of two companies she has started herself.

Ralph Hits The Net

Consumer advocate, Ralph Nadar, now claims that Search Engines are a consumer hazard. Business Week Magazine reports that Nadar claims Search Engines don't clearly notify surfers that listings might be based on money rather than merit.

Nadar's group, Commercial Alert, recently filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission alleging deceptive advertising practices at 8 popular Search Engines: Alta Vista, DirectHit, HotBot, iWon, LookSmart, Lycos, Netscape, and MSN.

Pay Per Click engines derive a major source of their revenue from paid listings. If the FTC rules in Nadar's favor, there could be a big change in these engines behavior.

Watch for clues such as words like, "Sponsored Link" to tell you an advertiser has paid for the listing.

Do You Believe In Miracles?

Tim Hobe is a man alive today by the power of prayer. There is just no other explanation.

Mr. and Mrs Hobe are residents of a nearby town and friends with my parents. In fact my mom (also a subscriber.....hi Mom) sent me this article.

I've decided to include it in this issue today for several reasons. One, it is a modern day miracle story.

Oftentimes in life we find ourselves in situations that we don't want to be in. Trials, hardships, things just not going right. We all have them.

And too often we get caught up in seeing all the problems and things that are wrong in life instead of giving thanks that we don't have to go through trials that others are in.

The next time you find yourself in a tough situation or feeling sorrry for yourself, go read this story. When you're done, I think you will find yourself saying thanks for the blessings you do have. And find considerable encouragment from a man who just wouldn't die.

Nobody Likes Me.....

As a child we used to sing a little ditty that went,

Nobody likes me,
Everybody hates me,
Think I'll go eat worms......

(Write me if you'd like to know the rest of it )

Well actually that has little to do with this, but worms are in the news lately.....and hopefully not in your computer.

The SirCam worm made it's rounds this week. The opening lines of the email were:

I send you this file in order to have your advice I hope you can help me with this file that I send I hope you like the file that I sendo you This is the file with the information that you ask for/

It is also said the W95.Hybris.gen virus is going around again. That is the one with Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs, or hahaha This virus infected our computer several months ago without my knowing it, resulting in us losing one of our ISP accounts.

Protect Yourself!

It's just this simple.....NEVER OPEN an attachment.

Unless, a person you know tells you before hand they are sending you that attachment and what it contains.
